MSC designs and produces its own line of industry standard modules:
- COM Express
- ETX
- Qseven
- EXM32
along with associated platform boards for development or
mass production.
COM Express is today's leading COM standard in the world of CPU module technology. It is defined in an open specification from the PICMG (www.picmg.org) which represents more than 400 companies in the field of industrial PC technology.
ETX/ETE made COM modules popular and is still well alive especially in applications where the ISA bus is required. However, modern chipsets and operating systems went away from this technology as well as from LPT and PS/2. Therefore new designs are likely to go away from this platfom as serial interfaces made their way into industrial systems.
Qseven is the latest member in COM standards and is especially suited for performance needs below
COM Express, compact systems, higher integration and single 5V supply. However, it supports interfaces like HDMI/Display port, PCI Express and GbE, but no parallel or analog interfaces.(www.qseven-standard.org)
EXM32 is well suited for applications requiring extremely low power dissipation, extended temperature ranges and RISC technology (e.g. ARM). The main support for operating system software is WindowsCE and Linux, while the standard itself offers additional process interfaces like CAN or UARTs (www.exm32.org).
